On the 9th April the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC) hosted a CDT Open Day for current students.

The Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC)
The Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC). No. 19 on the UoM Campus Map.

This event enabled students to not only visit and learn more about the staff and facilities of the building, but to showcase their own skill sets and current research to several invited industrial partners, find out about opportunities for collaborative research with GEIC staff/industrial partners, discuss potential secondments opportunities, and gain a better understanding of the needs and expectations of working with industry.

In addition to tours and an introductory talk about the GEIC, there were two talks from our current (CDT) industry partners who talked about benefits of working with PhD students and the CDT from their perspective. The CDT Director also spoke about how industry can engage with the CDT and the opportunities and benefits this can generate for all parties. Students presented posters that showcased their research area and research skills to enlighten GEIC staff and their partners of the kind of research currently being undertaken and to discuss opportunities for secondments, collaborative projects, or future employment.

The events was well attended involving over 40 students from all cohorts.

The CDT would like to thank GEIC staff for all their hard work to organise the event.
