CDT Monthly Student Seminar: February 2019
Tom Lane delivered a talk at this month's seminar entitled "Conductance characteristics of a gate-defined bilayer graphene quantum point contact", relating to his project on "Theory of tunnelling devices based on heterostructures of 2D materials".
Tom's talk detailed his efforts to model a 1D quantum wire and perform conductance calculations. During the talk he walked the audience through the steps of his approach, detailing each part of the simulation. His techniques involved a tight binding approach, using a recursive algorithm to iterate over small unit cells.
Tom is a final year student based in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manchester, and is supervised by Prof. Vladimir Fal'ko.
